Breakfast with a Bee

This is a place we visit more often than any other diner. It's probably because it's conveniently located near my apartment. Travis loves this breakfast joint because they make his favorite breakfast sandwiches (they get the bacon just right, it's the crispiest). Susan (co-blogger, c0-breakfast enthusiast) hates this place because one of the waitresses is rude, mean, and can end up ruining your morning.

This excursion, we got the semi-mean waitress, who is nice as long as it's not a busy Saturday morning. Travis got his usual bacon, egg, and cheese, which was delicious. The bacon was crispy, as usual. They also use sandwich size English muffins, which is a plus because most places use the regularly sized English muffins. I got the 2 eggs with home-fries and wheat toast. I was a little disappointed (which is rare), because my eggs were undercooked. I love that the Busy Bee Restaurant always cooks your food to order, which means it is always fresh and served HOT. They bring out your plate as soon as your meal is off the grill; regardless of whether or not the dish for the person your with is ready. At first this is a little strange, but we've gotten used to it. Another thing that you might find strange is that they do not give refills on the coffee. Apparently, they buy really expensive coffee beans and the owner doesn't let the waitress refill your cup. Or maybe the waitresses are too mean to give me more coffee. Either case, totally uncool for coffee enthusiasts.

The wait-staff is very unfriendly when it gets busy. They get frustrated and take it out on customers. The meanest waitress rolls her eyes and gets impatient with people ordering their meals. There have been times when I've wanted to cry. Despite all of these mean people serving breakfast, one of the "employees", Peter, can be wild and entertaining. I'm not exactly sure what his job is, but on busy Saturday mornings he stands near the grill and screams "pancakes" or "French toast" in a thick Greek accent.

I do love the interior of this diner. They have vinyl, baby blue booth seats and black-and-white pictures of 1950's celebrities. It's small, but still maintains a diner feel, which is definitely a hard thing to come across in the city. The hours are weird though, I think they close at 2:00 PM everyday.

We obviously enjoy this place, considering sometimes we'll be there 3-4 times a week. The Busy Bee Restaurant (1046 Beacon Street, on the Brookline/Boston townline, 617-566-8733) is accessible by bike and easy to find. This morning, our bill was $9.00, making this an affordable daily breakfast joint.

(I deleted the pictures of our meal, but I'm sure you know what a bacon, egg, and cheese looks like.)

Until another delicious b-fast,
H-dawg
